That Gamer's Background

Where to begin? Probably should start at the beginning, I started playing games when I was 2 or 3 years old, basically as soon as I learned how to hold it and push buttons from watching my Dad play 007: Golden Eye, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Over the years my tastes in games have changed similarly to my other tastes, they have gone from mystical adventure games such as; Zelda, Portal, Oblivion, Mario, etc. to game that are more aggressive and "mature" like; Gears of War, Halo, Call of Duty, etc.. However, currently my taste has gone more on the lines of indie games like; Terraria, Risk of Rain, Rogue Legacy, Garry's Mod, etc. although Zelda probably won't get pulled from my Number One game slot.
Currently I am 17 years old, and despite managing my time well, probably end up playing more games than is necessary, but who cares? It makes me happy, I get to meet new people, talk to old friends, relax and just play. It's what keeps me sane a lot of the time. As far as career plans go I don't really have one right now, I would like to do something with games since they are my passion but that's fairly unlikely due to my lack of artistic capabilities. However, if I ever get the chance I think the best place I could ever work is with Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma on the Legend of Zelda development teams. If I can't do that the next best thing would have to be Nintendo America branch, because they can get onto game dev. teams at Nintendo HQ in Japan.

  1. You could be a game tester at Nintendo, or Microsoft. Dillion, and Aaron both did that. :), it'd be a good start, and expose you to the industry. Also, you don't have to be an artist to be in games. You could be a coder. And those guys make big $$.

  2. I personally have always wanted to do that. Haven't really figured out how to get into the business though.
